Beyond the fruit cup

There is no way someone can resist to the rainbow array of fruits. Fresh strawberries, rich red watermelon, yellow juicy pineapple, tasty rockmelon, sweet honeydew, plump green grapes and shiny bright oranges are not only naturally delicious, but they also have unlimited benefits.

The Watermelon is full of vitamins A and C, potassium, calcium, iron and lycopene, one of the most effective antioxidants. It is also perfect for a face mask!

There are only a few things that will bring the same pleasure as the fresh Strawberries on a warm summer day. Their juice is well known for moisturizing the skin and soothing sunburn. One cup of strawberries contains iron, calcium, Vitamin A, as much Vitamin C as one cup of orange juice, 50 calories, potassium and B6. The seeds are a good source of dietary fibre. A fun way to eat strawberries is with chocolate!

The lemons and oranges, from the citrus family, are used in natural cosmetics as antioxidants due to their high content of vitamin E, C and A.

There are two types of Grapes – red and white. They are known for being one of the best fruit that fights aging. Grapes contain Resveratrol, which inhibits cancer, viral infections, heart disease and much more. The most important parts of the grape are the skin and the seeds.

Pineapple is great for snacks, fruit salad or juice. It is high in Vitamin C, Vitamin B1, B2 and B6. Its protein-digesting enzyme helps digestion especially after a high protein meal. It also tenderizes meat when marinated.

Kiwifruit is one and a half higher in Vitamin C than oranges. It also contains some Vitamin E. Botanically, kiwi is a berry. It is best to eat a kiwi raw!

Rockmelon is amazing. 100g of rockmelon is what you need for the daily Vitamin C intake. It is a good source of beta-carotene (Vitamin A) and potassium. It is best to eat a rockmelon raw with ice-cream, as dessert, as breakfast, in a fruit salad, with yogurt or as juice!

Honeydew can be found with white or gold skin. The white skinned are sweeter, more than watermelon. It is a good source of Vitamin C and other types of vitamins in smaller quantities.

Bananas are high in Vitamin C, dietary fiber, potassium and vitamin B6. They are no fat. They are the good carbohydrates that power muscles. A fun way to eat bananas is dipped in chocolate, coconut or peanut butter.

There are many reasons why you should eat Apples. They will keep you and your bones healthy. An apple contains lots of antioxidants and its dietary fiber called pectin helps good bacteria to live in the bowel. One apple supplies a quarter of the daily Vitamin C needs. They are great for salads, school lunch boxes, smoothies, snacks or tarts.
